PTI MNA Mumtaz Mustafa passes away in Islamabad
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Mumtaz Mustafa passed away due to a heart attack in Islamabad on Monday.
Mustafa was from the southern Punjab district of Rahim Yar Khan and had been elected to the NA-171 constituency in the February 8 general elections.
Mustafa was residing at the Parliament Lodges in Islamabad when he died. The session of the National Assembly was convened to express condolences over Mustafa’s death, and the proceedings were then adjourned without further business.
NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq mentioned that there would be no clapping or applause from guests attending the session due to Mustafa’s passing.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) lawmaker Khawaja Izhaar ul Haq said that an ambulance was unable to reach Mustafa’s lodge at the Parliament Lodges to take him to the hospital, as the cars of other members were parked on the road blocking access.
In response to this, the NA Speaker instructed the Deputy Speaker to immediately vist the Parliament Lodges and have the cars removed from the roads to clear the way.
The Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub Khan, offered his condolences on Mustafa’s passing, praising his kind and compassionate personality. PTI leader Khan said that Mumtaz Mustafa will always be remembered.
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar described Mustafa as a renowned lawyer and a great human being with strong abilities. Tarar offered prayers for Mustafa’s departed soul and for his family members.
Other members of the National Assembly also expressed their grief and sorrow over Mustafa’s death, and prayed for his soul.
