Mohandri Bazaar devastated by floods, KP rushes to restore connectivity in Kaghan Valley
In the Mohandri area of Naran, the Kunhar River has formed a lake, causing 8 more shops to be swept away. However, the administration has successfully evacuated stranded tourists in Naran, sending them home through Babusar Top.
The connection between Balakot and the Kaghan Valley remains cut off for the fourth consecutive day.
According to the Secretary of Information of the Mohandri Traders Association, 16 shops in Mahandri Bazaar have been destroyed by the Munawar Nullah and Kunhar River, while 40 other shops have been inundated, leading to severe financial losses for the trading community.
The traders’ association warns that without timely relief efforts, Mohandri Bazaar could face irreparable damage.
On Friday, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary, accompanied by other officials, visited the flood-affected Mohandri area and conducted a thorough assessment of the damaged Mohandri Bridge Bazaar.
He stated that the administration is closely monitoring the situation and has ordered heavy machinery and bridge materials to be transported via Babusar Top, with the aim of completing the bridge installation within 6-7 days.
Addressing concerns about food and fuel shortages, the chief secretary mentioned that stocks for 8-10 days are typically maintained in such areas, and oil tankers are being dispatched via Babusar Top to replenish fuel supplies, expected to reach Naran by the next day.
The Chief Secretary also confirmed that tourists have been safely evacuated, and the hotel association is providing accommodations for those who wish to stay. He presented emergency aid checks of Rs1 million each to the family of a mother and child swept away by the Munawar Nullah, offering condolences and prayers.
The chief secretary instructed all department heads to work around the clock to alleviate people’s suffering and warned that any negligence would not be tolerated.
