The government has prepared to impose an additional burden on electricity consumers. There is a possibility of an increase of Rs2.63 per unit in electricity prices for one month.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed a request with NEPRA, seeking an increase in electricity prices under the head of June fuel cost adjustment.

NEPRA will hold a hearing on CPPA’s request today. CPPA had previously filed a revised request with NEPRA.

The increase is being sought under the head of June fuel price adjustment. The initial request sought an increase of Rs2.10 per unit, but this has now been revised to Rs2.63.

The request states that 35.13% of electricity was generated from water, 11.06% from local coal, 1.95% from fuel oil, and 8.66% from local gas.

However, the power division officials have stated that there will be no increase in electricity prices, and the bills will be lower compared to June.

Electricity generated from imported LNG accounted for 18.10%, while 14.85% was generated from nuclear fuel.
