Eleven of a family killed as flash flood sweeps away house in Kohat

At least 13 others also die in rain-related incident; Landslides close road in KP

Pakistan is under the influence of a strong monsoon system, resulting in heavy rains across various cities and causing several incidents. In Kohat, a flash flood entered a house, killing 11 people. In Nagarparkar and Chachhro, lightning strikes claimed the lives of nine individuals. In Rawalpindi, three people died due to electrocution and a roof collapse. Additionally, one person lost their life in Azad Kashmir.

In Nagarparkar and Chachro, nine people were killed due to lightning strikes, while in Rawalpindi, one person died from electrocution.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has predicted the possibility of over 200 millimeters of rainfall in different districts. There are also concerns about the potential for flooding in Karachi.

According to the meteorological department, the current week will see a continuation of heavy rains in the southern, northern and central parts of the country. The NDMA has issued alerts to provincial disaster management authorities and other relevant agencies.

Sindh and Punjab have experienced widespread flooding, with several districts in Punjab being completely submerged. Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have also been affected by the deluge.

The lightning strikes in Nangparkar and Chachhro resulted in the deaths of 9 people, including 2 women and a child. Over 50 livestock animals were also killed in these incidents.

In Ziarat, Sanjawi, Duki, Harnai, Loralai and Quetta, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms has broken the intensity of the heatwave, leading to a flood-like situation in the streams and nullahs.

The downpours have also affected various other areas in Balochistan, including Ziarat, Harnai and Loralai, where thunderstorms damaged solar panels and signboards.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, districts like South Waziristan, Mansehra and Swabi have also experienced heavy rains, causing rivers and streams to overflow and water to enter homes. The administration has warned of the possibility of landslides in the upper areas, including the Kaghan valley.

Several districts in Punjab, including Jhang, Vehari, Burewala, Mailsi, Chichawatni, Sargodha, Khushab, Toba Tek Singh, Jhelum, Rahim Yar Khan, Mandi Bahauddin, Bhakkar, Sheikhupura and Hafizabad, have recorded varying intensities of rainfall, from light to heavy downpours.

Intense monsoon rains have caused severe disruption in Azad Kashmir including areas such as , the main Mirpur-Kotli road has been blocked from both sides due to a landslide, upper valley of Neelum, Guras, Bagh district, Dhirkot, Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Kotli, Samahni, Sudhanoti, and Bhimber have experienced heavy downpours, leading to the flooding of rivers and streams.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy rainfall in the Kashmir, Malakand, Hazara, and Gujranwala Division regions.

NDMA has warned of the possibility of up to 200 mm of rainfall in the affected areas.

In Rawalpindi, the heavy downpour has flooded the low-lying areas, with streets and roads turning into lakes. Areas like Waris Khan, Circular Road, and Chakra have been completely submerged, forcing the district administration to relocate the residents of low-lying neighborhoods to safer locations. The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has declared a rain emergency in Rawalpindi and uses heavy machinery to conduct dewatering operations in the affected areas and one person was killed near Tarnol Police Station due to an electric shock caused by the heavy rains. In Shakarganj, six people have been killed and four injured due to lightning strikes.

The Federal Interior Minister has directed the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to mobilize field teams for dewatering operations in Islamabad.

House inundated in Kohat

In Kohat, a severe storm has caused widespread devastation. A flash flood from the nearby hills has entered a house, resulting in the drowning deaths of 11 people.

In the tribal area of Dara Adamkhel, the heavy rainfall has also wreaked havoc. A flash flood from the adjacent hills has swept away the sleeping occupants of a house, leading to their demise.

The rescue teams reached the Bazee Khel area, where they recovered the bodies of 10 individuals who had been killed by the flash flood.

A 5-year-old girl remains missing, and the search operation is still ongoing.
