Turkmenistan urged to utilize Gwadar port for regional trade

President Asif Ali Zardari has urged Turkmenistan to take advantage of Pakistan’s Gwadar port to promote regional trade.

During a meeting with Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, President Zardari highlighted the great opportunities offered by Gwadar port for boosting regional connectivity and commerce.

He stressed the need for enhanced communication and exchanges between the two nations to further strengthen economic, investment and cultural cooperation.

The Turkmen Foreign Minister acknowledged the cordial relations between the two countries and stated that Turkmenistan would continue to foster economic, cultural and educational collaboration with Pakistan.

He also emphasized the importance of constructing motorways and railways through Afghanistan to connect the two nations.

Separately, President Zardari has signed the Christian Marriage (Amendment) Act into law, increasing the marriageable age for Christian men and women to 18 years. This amendment to the Christian Marriage Act of 1872 was a long-standing demand of the Christian community in Pakistan.

Addressing the signing ceremony, the President affirmed the equal rights of all citizens and urged minorities to continue playing their role in the country’s progress and prosperity.

He also pledged to write to the federal government to enhance job quotas for minority communities in various departments.

The latest developments underscore Pakistan’s efforts to deepen regional integration and promote the welfare of all its citizens, irrespective of their religious or ethnic backgrounds.
