Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s spokesperson Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif has urged the federal government to provide them with financial and technical support in countering militancy.

“KP police is doing their job and is performing their duty more than their capacity,” he said while appearing on the News Insight with Amir Zia via telephone call.

“Keep in mind that law and order is one thing and national security another which is the responsibility of the federal government,” he said and added that the province alone cannot face the rise in terrorism.

He urged the government to counter illegal spectrum, cybercrime, hundi and hawala, the flow of unregistered cars through borders, and the narcotics trade.

Saif advised the prime minister and the defence minister to avoid giving loose statements about terrorism. He claimed that the government did not provide Rs590 billion to the province.

“This is factually wrong as this amount was given to Swat after the 2009 operation for reconstruction,” he said and advised the government to avoid “adding fuel to fire.”

He shunned the impression that KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur was absent amid the Bannu incident.

“We have requested that an apex committee meeting should be called on the day after tomorrow,” he said and added that Gandapur would visit the district on the jirga’s request.

When asked, he said the committee has demanded that police conduct the operation or search homes instead of the armed forces men as they don’t feel easy when army men come.

“They think that police are local and civilian. They easily interact with them,” he said and added that the committee has called for compensation for martyred men and injured people.
