Karachi to remain hot today, with possibility of scattered rain

A new monsoon spell is expected to enter Karachi from July 18

Karachi continues to experience intense heat as sea breezes remain absent, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The city is expected to experience thunderstorms and rain in some areas.

The PMD reports that the city will remain under the grip of scorching heat and humidity for the next 24 hours. The temperature is expected to reach 41 degrees Celsius on the day of Ashura, with the current temperature already at 36 degrees Celsius. The heat index is currently at 47 degrees Celsius.

The PMD states that the humidity level is at 57%, with partly cloudy skies and winds blowing from the northeast at 13 kilometers per hour.

While the PMD predicts possible thunderstorms and rain in some parts of the city today, a new monsoon spell is expected to enter Karachi from July 18, with heavy rain anticipated from July 20.

Rain is also likely in some areas of Thatta, Sajawal, Sanghar, Badin, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mithi, and Mirpur Khas.

Meanwhile, a weather analyst has attributed the absence of sea breezes to a low-pressure system over the northern Arabian Sea. Warm, moist winds are blowing from the northeast, resulting in high humidity levels and a heat index exceeding 46 degrees Celsius.

The heat index in coastal areas is exceeding 50 degrees Celsius.
