The Islamabad High Court Election Tribunal, headed by Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri, has adjourned the hearing of election rigging cases in National Assembly constituencies NA-46, NA-47, and NA-48 until July 24.

The delay stems from a stay order issued by the Islamabad High Court, preventing the tribunal from proceeding with the trial.

During the hearing, Justice Jahangiri expressed his readiness to proceed with the trial daily. He added that the High Court has issued a stay order on the trial but the petitioners need to get the stay order vacated.

The tribunal had previously summoned all three MNAs involved in the cases and had ordered a daily trial. However, the stay order has stalled proceedings.

The petitioner’s lawyer, Shoaib Shaheen, argued that the parties involved have yet to comply with the court’s orders, including the submission of election records by the Returning Officer.

Justice Jahangiri acknowledged the situation, stating that the Chief Justice is scheduled to hear the matter on July 22. If the stay order is lifted, the tribunal will resume the trial.

It is important to note that on July 11th, the Islamabad High Court issued a stay order, halting the regular trial proceedings in the three National Assembly constituencies.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has challenged the election results in these three Islamabad constituencies before the Election Tribunal.

The petitioners include Amir Mughal, Shoaib Shaheen and Ali Bukhari.

The Election Tribunal will now reconvene on July 24th to determine the next steps in the case.
