A porter from the Shigar area has tragically died while carrying luggage for a foreign mountaineering team on their way to K2 base camp.

Sher Muhammad, part of a 12-member K2 trekking group organized by Apricot Tours, suffered breathing difficulties at Concordia peak, situated at 4500 meters.

Sher Muhammad, along with two dozen other local porters, was carrying a 25 kg load when he experienced breathing problems and lost consciousness.

A foreign doctor present at Concordia provided medical assistance, and arrangements were made to airlift him to Skardu by helicopter on Sunday. However, he sadly passed away on Saturday night.

Wajahat Ali, a representative of Apricot Tours, confirmed the tragic incident to Dawn. The porter’s body is currently being transported on foot from Concordia to his native village.

The porters play a crucial part in the mountaineering industry in the region, carrying heavy loads for climbers and expeditions.
