The body of the second Japanese climber who went missing while attempting to summit Golden Peak ‘Spantik’ in the Nagar Valley has been recovered.

The four-member Japanese team, led by Ryuseki Hiraoka and Atsushi Taguchi, embarked on their ascent of the 7,726-meter peak on June 10. The team had decided to attempt the climb without the assistance of local porters.

While attempting to traverse the challenging terrain above 7,000 meters, the two climbers went missing.

The body of one climber was recovered on June 15th during a rescue operation, while the search for the second climber continued.

The recovered body has been transported to Camp One, and authorities are now working to repatriate the remains.

The climbers had reached Camp Two at 5,300 meters before deciding to abandon their attempt and inform authorities. However, they subsequently went missing.

Golden Peak, also known as Spantik, is considered a relatively accessible and straightforward climb, making it a popular destination for mountaineers.

It is one of five peaks over 8,000 meters located in Pakistan, including K2, the world’s second highest mountain.
