Fire at PSX building in Karachi brought under control by rescue officials

A fire that broke out on the fourth floor of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) building in Karachi on Monday has been brought under control, rescue officials reported.

“It is hereby informed to all TRE Certificate Holders and concerned that the trading in all securities has been temporarily suspended from 10:25 am to 11:25 am today, due to the fire that broke out in the brokerage firm’s office in the Stock Exchange building,” PSX said in a statement.

“Due to this incident, many of the firms are unable to access the building,” it added.

According to a statement from Rescue 1122 Sindh, no casualties or injuries have been reported so far in the incident at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) building in Karachi. Local media reports indicate that people inside the stock exchange premises were evacuated after the fire broke out.

“Rescue 1122’s fire and rescue team were dispatched to the venue with two fire brigade trucks as soon as they received information [about the fire],” the rescue service said.

Video footage circulating widely showed flames and thick smoke billowing from the fourth floor of the PSX building in Karachi.
