Tells police he did it due to lack of funds for treatment

A father allegedly buried his newborn baby alive due to lack of funds for her treatment in Sindh’s Naushahro Feroze district, police said on Sunday.

The incident came to light through social media, and the authorities have ordered the exhumation of the grave after court directives.

The tragic incident occurred in the nearby village of Tharu Shah village Photorajpir.

The police have arrested the accused, Machar Rajpur, who has confessed to the crime. Rajpur stated that he already had two children, and this was his third child, who was ill since birth and suffering from a blood deficiency. Due to the unavailability of funds for treatment, he made the grave mistake of burying the baby alive.

After the arrest, the police took the accused to the gravesite, where he identified the location of the infant’s grave.

A case was registered against the suspect under sections 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) and 302 (punishment of qatl-i-amd) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
