The Sindh government has imposed a ban on pillion riding throughout the province on Muharram 9 and 10, aiming to ensure peace and law enforcement during the sacred month of Muharram.

This decision comes in light of security concerns during this period.

Certain exceptions are made to the pillion riding ban. Women, children under 12 years old, senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, journalists, law enforcement personnel and private security agents in uniform, as well as essential services employees are exempt.

The government has also prohibited the carrying and display of weapons, and the organization of processions and Majalis without official permission in Sindh until Ashura.

This measure is intended to further enhance security and prevent potential incidents.

Authorities in Sindh have been instructed to take appropriate measures during Muharram 1 to 10.

Controlling the use of loudspeakers: The use of loudspeakers in contravention of “The Sindh Sound System (Regulation) Act 2015” will be strictly monitored and addressed.

Preventing hate speech and violence: Any form of speech, wall chalking, posters, banners, leaflets, audios, or videos that incite hatred and violence will be prohibited. Ensuring safety on rooftops: The presence of any unauthorized individuals on rooftops during Muharram events will be restricted to prevent potential safety hazards.

Regulating processions and gatherings: All processions, rallies, Majalis, Jalsa, and Tazia events require official permission and will be closely monitored.

Limiting public gatherings: Assemblies of five or more people, except for authorized Muharram processions and gatherings, will be restricted.

Carrying of arms and ammunition: The carrying of arms and ammunition is prohibited, except for personnel of law enforcement agencies and private security agencies on duty.

Banning the use of drones: The use of helicams and drones is strictly prohibited during this period.

The notification also stated that all permits issued by the Home Department, Sindh, allowing the carrying of weapons in exemption to the ban under Section 144 of the CrPC, will be temporarily revoked during the mentioned period.

Station House Officers (SHOs) of respective police stations are authorized to formally document complaints against individuals who violate the imposed restrictions.
