PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi would be released from custody “immediately” after Eid and would return to his home, his son Zain Qureshi has claimed.

In a media interaction in Multan on Monday, Zain said that all the government’s claims made before the budget remained unfulfilled and the budget appeared to be more “IMF-friendly” than people-friendly.

He claimed that the cipher case against his father and former prime minister Imran Khan was politically motivated. Zain added that his father and Khan were deprived of performing Eid prayers in Adiala jail.

Earlier this month, the Islamabad High Court acquitted Khan and Qureshi in the cipher case. But the duo is still in prison due to Khan’s sentence in the Iddat case while Qureshi was arrested in a recent May 9 case.

The duo are not expected to be released from prison due to Imran’s sentence in the Iddat case while Qureshi was arrested in recent May 9 cases. The Iddat case was transferred to another judge today while Qureshi is on physical remand till June 5 (Wednesday).

The MNA demanded that a commission be formed to investigate the February 8 elections so that the “truth” can come out before the public. He also called for forming a fact-finding commission on May 9 incident, stating that thousands of people have been imprisoned on the pretext of the case and they should be released.

Zain described the incumbent government as the ‘Form 45 government’.
