The new Colors will be used during the Trooping of the Colour ceremony at the King’s official birthday parade in London on June 15th, 2024.

The ceremony began with a parade led by the Band of the Irish Guards and the Regimental Mascot, an Irish wolfhound named Turlough Mor.

The old Colours were marched off and the new Colours were consecrated with a blessing by the Chaplain General.

After inspecting the Guardsmen and Officers, King Charles then presented the new Colours to two junior officers. In his address, the King praised the “professionalism, courage and humour” that has always characterized the Irish Guards.

The Regimental and King’s Colours are central symbols of the Irish Guards, representing the regiment’s history, honours and fallen comrades.

They accompany soldiers on operations and ceremonial duties to this day.

As Colonel-in-Chief, the King is responsible for the seven Guards regiments of the Household Division. In March 2023, the Princess of Wales took over the role of Colonel of the Irish Guards from the Prince of Wales.
