The Dallas Mavericks have found themselves in an early 0-2 hole against the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA Finals. Superstar Luka Doncic pointed to the team’s inability to score as the main issue plaguing them so far in the series.

“Our defense has not been bad. We just can’t really score. That’s our main problem right now,” Doncic said. While he has been playing well, averaging 31 points, 10.5 rebounds and 6 assists, the rest of the Mavericks roster has struggled offensively.

In the first two games, the Mavericks are averaging just 93.5 points on 44.5% shooting, well below the Celtics’ 106 points per game on 46.3% shooting. Outside of Doncic, no other Maverick is averaging more than 15.5 points, with Kyrie Irving in particular struggling at just 14 points per game on 35.1% shooting.

“I think we’re getting some great looks, and like I said, we have confidence that everybody can make a shot. That’s shooting the ball on our team, so we just gotta keep believing it,” Doncic added.

The Mavericks will look to turn things around when the series shifts to Dallas for Game 3 on Wednesday. Doncic acknowledged that he needs to cut down on turnovers and improve his free throw shooting in order to help his team claw their way back into the series.
