Country music legend Dolly Parton has expressed her surprise and delight over Beyoncé’s updated rendition of Parton’s iconic 1973 hit “Jolene.”

In a recent interview with E! News, Parton revealed that she was not expecting Beyoncé to put her own spin on the classic song when the pop superstar decided to cover it on her album Cowboy Carter.

“Well, I think it was very bold of her,” Parton said. “When they said she was gonna do ‘Jolene,’ I expected it to be my regular one, but it wasn’t. But I love what she did to it.”

“She wasn’t gonna go beg some other woman like I did,” Parton said. “‘Don’t steal my man.’ S—, get out here, bitch. You ain’t stealin’ mine.”

Parton expressed her admiration for artists who cover her songs, regardless of how they choose to interpret them. She even provided an introduction for Beyoncé’s version of “Jolene,” humorously referencing the titular character.
