Law Minister calls IHC comments in abduction case ‘shocking’

Adds that constitution provides protection to army and government

Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said expressed surprise over the Islamabad High Court’s remarks in the Ahmed Farhad abduction case, adding that it seems the court was overstepping its mandate.

They further stated that whether it’s the judiciary or politicians, everyone should demonstrate tolerance. Judges have their own code of conduct, and they must fulfill their responsibilities.

Cases of missing persons like Ahmed Farhad occur in every country, the minister said, and the reporting of remarks made in court is inappropriate.

Regarding the case of poet Ahmed Farhad, Tarar said that the case of Ahmed Farhad’s disappearance is being heard in the Islamabad High Court and he was troubled by the way it was sensationalized in the media.

The distribution of powers in Pakistan’s governance system is clear, Tarar said, adding that the administration, legislature, and judiciary have their respective roles to play.

The Federal Law Minister further stated that sensationalizing news and spreading unrest is inappropriate. Court matters are resolved within the court. This is a serious case that should be approached with seriousness.

Tarar added that Article 191 is clear regarding the armed forces of Pakistan, and Article 248 provides protection to the Prime Minister and the Cabinet.

He went on to add that there could have been some discrepancy in the reporting.
