Kareena Kapoor in hot water for using ‘Bible’ in book’s title
Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor Khan has been served a notice by the Madhya Pradesh High Court in response to a petition filed by a citizen. The petitioner is seeking the registration of a criminal case against Khan for using the word ‘Bible’ in the title of her book about pregnancy.
The book, titled ‘Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Pregnancy Bible: The ultimate manual for moms-to-be,’ was published in August 2021.
The petitioner, advocate Christopher Anthony, claims that the book’s title has offended the religious sentiments of Christians. According to the petition, the use of the word ‘Bible’ in the title was a ploy to gain cheap popularity and is considered objectionable.
Anthony took the matter to the High Court after his plea to register a case against Kareena Kapoor was dismissed by an additional sessions court. The case is scheduled for its next hearing on July 1.
Initially, the Jabalpur resident had lodged a complaint with the local police station. In his complaint, Anthony alleged that the book’s title had hurt the sentiments of the Christian community, as it compared the Bible, a holy book, with the actress’s pregnancy. However, the police declined to register a case.
Anthony then approached a magistrate court seeking similar relief, but his plea was also dismissed. The court found that he had failed to establish how the use of the word ‘Bible’ had offended Christians.
Subsequently, Anthony took the matter to the Additional Sessions Court, which also refused to provide any relief.
