Several PTI leaders arrested as party holds protests related to May 9
Several PTI leaders were arrested on Thursday as they protested related to the May 9 riots in different cities of Punjab, the party has claimed.
Rehana Dar, the mother of former PM’s aide Usman Dar, was arrested by Sialkot Police when she, along with other protesters, the party claimed. She was later released, but Rehana claimed seven of their supporters were still behind bars.
The party held an event for martyred party workers and Rehana was detained before she participated in the event.
The PTI had announced its decision to hold peaceful protests across the country on Thursday.
Meanwhile, a heavy contingent was deployed outside the Jinnah House. PTI leader Shehryar Riaz was also arrested.
In Karachi, the party claimed that police did not allow its protesters to hold protests in the city and took its leader Jamal Saddiqui into their custody.
Reports said that two PTI supporters were while they also tried to arrest women members of the party.
The party claimed that its leader Seemabia Tahir was arrested in Rawalpindi. Meanwhile, clips on social media showed that the Islamabad police tried to detain PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan.
Separate rallies were organised in Malakand, Batta Khela, and Dargai in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
