PTI demands arrest of ex-PM Kakar over wheat crisis
Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Ahmed Khan Bhachar has demanded that former prime minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar be arrested over the wheat crisis in the province.
“Firstly, they should arrest those who took the decision in the Economic Coordination Committee meeting,” he said in an interview with Tariq Chaudhry which was aired on Aaj News on Saturday.
Farmers in different parts of Punjab have been protesting against what they say the Punjab government and the Agriculture Department failed to enforce the wheat support price in the open market.
Punjab contributes more than 75% of the total wheat harvest, according to media reports and this year the market crashed and growers are forced to sell the staple food crop much below the support price set by the government.
“Arrest Kakar and this is a continuation of the PML-N government,” he said and added that the government imported 32 tons of wheat despite having 40 tons of wheat.
He claimed that the government has not submitted the procurement policy. Bhachar went on to add that the government has submitted six sacks of wheat per acre, describing it as a “joke”.
