In a move aimed at strengthening the country’s response to cybercrime, the Pakistani government has announced the establishment of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

This new agency will operate under the Ministry of Interior and will take over responsibilities previously held by the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Investigation Wing.

The government has issued a gazette notification outlining the formation of the NCCIA, effectively dissolving the FIA’s cybercrime division. The notification details the agency’s structure, including the appointment of a Director General (DG) who will hold a minimum grade 21 position and be under 63 years of age.

The DG will be appointed by the federal government for a two-year term.

The NCCIA will also have a team of Additional Director Generals, Directors, Additional Directors, Assistant Directors, and other necessary personnel.

All ongoing inquiries, investigations, and assets from the FIA Cyber Crime Wing will be transferred to the newly formed agency.

This development is expected to enhance Pakistan’s ability to combat cybercrime and address the growing challenges posed by malicious actors online.

The dedicated agency will focus on investigating and countering cyber threats, including those targeting national security and critical infrastructure.
