JUI’s victory would have disrupted power games: Maulana

JUI holds massive rally in Karachi

The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has erected a stage on Karachi’s New M.A. Jinnah Road for a planned rally, despite not receiving permission from the local administration.

Addressing the rally, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman launched a scathing attack on the current government, calling the assemblies “fake” and alleging that they were “bought” through corrupt means. He claimed that deals were made from the Sindh Assembly all the way to the President’s House.

Rehman asserted that his party seeks a government that adheres to the constitution and represents the true will of the people. He alleged that there were attempts to sideline JUI-F, as its victory would have disrupted the alleged power games at the President’s House.

He further claimed that rigging occurred not only in the 2018 elections but also in the recent 2024 elections. He stated that despite attempts to undermine their movement, the JUI-F’s struggle for fair representation would continue even after his leadership.

He highlighted the four-year long movement and expressed gratitude for the support received from the people of Sindh.

Convoys from various cities arrived in Karachi for the JUI-F’s gathering, and strict security measures have been implemented at the venue.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman is expected to address the rally, which is being held to protest alleged rigging in the recent elections.

A large tent has been set up for the public from People’s Chowrangi to New M.A. Jinnah Road, along with an elevated stage for leaders and guests.

However, a report by the SSP East district has led to an order from the Deputy Commissioner East, stating that the Commissioner of Karachi has not granted permission for the JUI-F to hold the rally.

The report cites recent terrorism incidents as the reason for denying permission for any large public gatherings.

Despite the lack of permission, the traffic police have issued a plan for alternative routes to manage traffic flow.

The JUI-F has titled the rally “Awami Assembly” (People’s Assembly) and aims to protest against alleged rigging in the elections. According to a JUI-F spokesperson, Maulana Fazlur Rehman will deliver a key address at the gathering.
