The armed forces of the country with the support of the nation would foil all the inimical forces bent on impeding Pakistan’s development and prosperity, said Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir on Friday.

“We are all a united team Pakistan – Inshallah with the cooperation and support of the people, all efforts of those who distract and obstruct Pakistan’s development journey will fail,” the army chief said while addressing the Green Pakistan Initiative conference.

The army chief said that negative propaganda and social media trolls could not distract the nation from working for the development and prosperity of Pakistan and its people.

“In today’s era, complete independence without economic stability is not possible, whereas no instability would be tolerated in Pakistan’s journey of prosperity and development. Let us all reject negative forces together and focus on Pakistan’s journey of development and stability,” the army chief said.

The GPI is aimed at introducing the latest farming on 4.4 million acres of land across the country. The government is eyeing to fetch around $40 billion during the next five years through the agricultural initiative and hopes to create four million jobs through this process.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations said Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain, and civil and military officials, involved in the national undertaking also attended the conference.

Officials briefed the forum about the multi-faceted GPI initiatives and significant benchmarks achieved in a short span of time.

The initiatives presented before the forum included, inter alia, the establishment of model farms, water management schemes, technology innovations and investment partnerships aimed at ensuring food security and enhancing agricultural productivity in Pakistan.

The federal ministers lauded this transformative initiative and underscored that agriculture “is the lifeline of Pakistan.” They hoped that the GPI would introduce contemporary best practices in the country’s agriculture sector.

“Pakistan is a blessed land with an industrious and resilient nation which needs to come together for national development,” the army chief said.

“Pakistan Army will continue to provide all possible support for the economic development of Pakistan and underscored that the army’s efforts would contribute towards comprehensive national security and collective good of the nation,” COAS Munir added.

On April 16, the army top brass warned of stern action against a malicious propaganda campaign meant to demoralise the armed forces.

“Unfounded and baseless allegations on Law Enforcement Agencies and Security Forces have become a fashion and are part of the larger design to drive a wedge between the people and the Armed Forces of Pakistan,” the Corps Commanders Conference was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations.

“We will not allow such efforts to succeed and as per the law and constitution, stern action will be ensured”.

The country’s political and military leadership have expressed their concerns over the purported campaign against the country on social media.

In January this year, COAS Munir said “negative propaganda” on social media was aimed at creating uncertainty and hopelessness in the country.

At the Pakistan National Youth Conference in Islamabad, the army chief stressed the need for double-checking news on social media. He said that without proper research and positive thinking, there would be chaos in the society.
