The United States would work with Pakistan for its economic progress, said ambassador Donald Blome on Tuesday.

“We are determined to collaborate with Pakistan on environmental and energy challenges,” he said while addressing reporters after inaugurating a US-funded Police Training College in Quetta.

The $5.35 million worth of new training college is operational and police recruits will receive the “high-quality, skills-based training” they need to protect and serve local communities, the embassy said.

With seven new and four renovated buildings, the facility can provide training to almost three times as many personnel, with new facilities for women police.

“This state-of-the-art facility marks a major step towards enhancing safety and women’s representation for Pakistani police serving in some of the country’s most challenging areas.”

The ambassador added that the US would work with Pakistan to strengthen community policing. While speaking about the college, he said that the administration has set up a $900 million worth of radio communication equipment, provided $700 million worth of vehicles, and explosion-proof equipment worth $195 million.

Such measures would improve operations and security in the province, he said and added that the US has helped to improve the borders of Pakistan, fighting terrorism and smuggling of drugs.

“These measures make Pakistan safer, stronger and more secure,” Blome said.
