Renowned Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan has sent the internet into a frenzy with the announcement of his role as Ashwatthama in Nag Ashwin’s upcoming sci-fi epic, “Kalki 2898 AD.”

A character from Indian mythology known for his immortality, Ashwatthama will be portrayed by Bachchan, who has been de-aged into a youthful avatar.

The recently released footage, titled “Introducing Ashwatthama,” features a conversation between an aged Amitabh Bachchan and a young boy, showcasing glimpses of his timeless existence.

One particular still captivated fans, revealing a de-aged version of the megastar with his iconic brooding look, complete with a mustache, long black hair, and a radiant yellow stone on his forehead, presumably symbolizing his immortal powers.

Enthusiastic reactions flooded the internet, with users expressing their excitement over the casting choice.

One user hailed Bachchan as the “biggest star the Indian Film industry has witnessed for five decades,” while another referred to the image of young Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwatthama as a delightful surprise.

The 21-second teaser was unveiled during an intense Indian Premier League (IPL) match between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Sunday, further adding to the anticipation surrounding the film.

Amitabh Bachchan took to social media platform X to share his character poster from the movie, expressing his gratitude for the unique experience and the opportunity to work with immensely talented colleagues.

Directed by Nag Ashwin, known for his acclaimed films “Yevade Subramanyam” and “Mahanati,” “Kalki 2898 AD” promises to be a futuristic sci-fi extravaganza inspired by mythology.

With Amitabh Bachchan in this epic venture are Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani.

The film gained international acclaim following its groundbreaking debut at the San Diego Comic-Con last year.
