A United Kingdom couple has discovered a gothic gargoyle behind the toilet of their 700-year-old home as they got shocked after watching it.

“I couldn’t believe it. I shouted up to my wife and said ‘I’ve found a thing,” cybersecurity worker Rory Vorster, 41, told South West News Service.

The photos showed the gargoyle, having a hole for the mouth and a demonic face like many people have seen in gothic architecture that was prevalent in Europe from the mid-12th century to the 16th century.

Voster and his wife Tracy, 40 had made the “grotesque” discovery earlier in April after moving into the 12-room domicile.

The area is reportedly owned by Lincoln Cathedral. “It would have been for a vicar,” said Tracy, who was suspicious of the construction of the washroom as the artefact was concealed.

“Not entirely sure why they decided to cover it up,” she said, “it was well documented, but not that many people around here know it.”

Her husband was of the view that the previous occupant was aware of the gargoyle as they’d lived there for 20 years.

But Tracy said that they were able to discover it after having an argument over cleaning the bathroom.

“It all came about from our spat about not cleaning the bathroom,” she said, “had it not been for him he wouldn’t have found it.”
