UAE allows dependent visa holders to work

New regulations enable sponsored individuals to pursue employment opportunities

United Arab Emirates (UAE) has implemented new regulations that allow individuals sponsored by their family members to work in the country.

Under the revised rules, dependents, including spouses residing under their partner’s sponsorship, can now explore employment opportunities while enjoying the benefits of their current sponsorship.

The recent amendment is based on Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Employment Relations, Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022, and Administrative Resolution No. 38 of 2022, which outline the guidelines for implementing the revised regulations.

These laws ensure that sponsored individuals, such as housewives, who were previously prohibited from working, can now contribute to the UAE’s thriving job market.

According to Article 6(1)(c) of Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022, a woman sponsored by her husband is eligible to work in the UAE.

The provision states that a work permit for residents sponsored by their families can be issued, allowing them to be employed in establishments registered with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE).

These progressive changes offer greater flexibility and opportunities for families residing in the UAE. Expatriates can now maintain their existing sponsorship while pursuing fulfilling careers in the country.

The move aligns with the UAE’s vision of fostering an inclusive society and empowering all residents to contribute to its growth and prosperity.

The UAE’s decision to enable dependent visa holders to work has been widely praised for its positive impact on both individuals and the economy. It is expected to attract highly skilled professionals and further stimulate business activity in various sectors.

Government officials and experts have emphasized the importance of adhering to the necessary procedures and regulations.

To obtain a work permit, sponsored individuals must fulfill certain requirements, including providing a clear photo with a white background, a valid passport with a minimum validity of six months, a copy of a valid UAE residency visa, an approved employment contract duly endorsed by the MoHRE, and any necessary notarized and attested academic certificates.

Individuals seeking employment under their family sponsorship are advised to familiarize themselves with the guidelines provided by the MoHRE to ensure a smooth and lawful transition into the workforce.
