Punjab to court-martial corrupt police officers

Proposal being considered to enforce death penalty for rape

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a special meeting in Murree on Saturday where the Inspector General of Police gave a briefing on the overall law and order situation in the province.

In the meeting, it was decided to implement a special audit system to detect corruption and unprofessional behavior in the police and to hold a special court-martial for police officers and officials who are involved with corrupt elements and criminals. A complaint can be registered on the CM’s special dashboard for demanding bribes.

In the meeting, a principled decision was taken to establish a special unit and IT training to eliminate organized and cyber crime, while the proposal to establish border security forces to prevent smuggling was considered.

According to the declaration of the law and order conference, it was decided to establish a functional specialized police force for each crime, to legislate for the death penalty in cases of rape of women and children.

According to the statement, in the meeting, measures were directed to eliminate the culture of illegal weapons, while it was ordered to make more fool-proof arrangements for kite flying and chemica string.

Maryam Nawaz said that those involved in the cases of abuse of children and women should be brought to justice, punishment can be ensured to reduce crimes. Protection of every citizen of Punjab is the primary responsibility of the government.

Maryam said that modern weapons, vehicles, night vision and drones will be provided to the police. In order to ensure effective action for the permanent elimination of terrorism, trafficking and gangs.

Senior minister Maryam Aurangzeb, Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, IG, AIG, Commissioner, CCPO, RPO and other officials were also present in the meeting.
