GB court allows ‘disappeared’ teenager Falak to remain with husband

Court told that Falak is between 13-16 years of age

Gilgit-Baltistan’s Chief Court has allowed a young woman who married of her own choice to remain with her husband.

A two-member bench led by Chief Justice Ali Baig ruled that the woman, named Falak Noor, should be taken to wherever she wanted as long as it was inside the boundaries of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The court was shown a medical report stating that Falak’s age was between 13 and 16 years.

However, the court allowed the woman to go with her husband when she expressed it as her wish.

Falak Noor had gone missing on January 20 from her home in Sultanabad area of Danyor in Gilgit. She was going to an religious school for classes when she had disappeared without trace.

Her father had approached the police regarding her disappearance, accusing their 17-year-old neighbor of kidnapping her. He had alleged that Falak had been taken to Mansehra and forcibly married.

However, when the matter ended up in court, the girl said that she had married of her own choice and wanted to stay with her husband.

The case had made headlines when Chairperson National Commission on the Status of Women Nilofar Bakhtiar had taken notice and demanded justice for the girl.
