PTI leader claims N-league behind ‘threatening’ letter to IHC judges

PML-N leader blames social media trolling for ex-CJP Jillani’s decision to recuse from inquiry commission

PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat has alleged that the PML-N was behind the “threatening” letter mailed to the Islamabad High Court judges.

“It was expected. I personally feel that it is N’s mischief because they are used to this,” he said in an interview with Shaukat Piracha on Aaj News show Rubaroo aired on Tuesday.

A week after six judges – out of the total eight – of the Islamabad High Court complained about interference and intimidation, a suspicious letter was mailed to all members of the court. The envelopes were opened by the staff members of two judges, who found an unidentified powder inside.

The letters also included a ‘threatening’ symbol whose details have not been specified. Following the reception of the letters, Islamabad’s IG and DIG were immediately summoned to the court.

When asked to substantiate his claims, Marwat gave no definite answer and quoted past examples when the PML-N attacked the Supreme Court in 1997. He added that abusive language has been used by judges in the past.

“Whether they operate through briefcases or carry hostility towards others.”

PML-N leader Khurram Dastgir was also another guest on the show. He was of the view that the judiciary, Parliament, and the state were divided.

“Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has an opportunity that he sits with heads of all institutions and has a discussion with them. This matter won’t be resolved by suggestions of the commissions or any other institution,” he said via a video link.

When asked about former CJP Tassaduq Hussain Jillani’s decision to recuse from the commission on judicial meddling claims, he blamed social media trolling against the former jurist and his family.

Senate elections

Marwat claimed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was not treated well and alleged that the reason for delaying the Senate election in the province was to ensure PTI leaders were defeated.

“If the Senate election was held in KP, we would have fought for the chairmanship,” he said and added that it was the job of the Election Commission of Pakistan to summon the assembly session, not the government.

“If they hold chairman and deputy chairman election before then the province will be completely ignored and then this election will be challenged that a province has no participation in it.”
