Pakistan Cricket Board officially made Babar Azam the captain of its white ball squads on Sunday.

The announcement was made on Sunday, while Azam along with the rest of the national team continue to attend a training camp in Kakul under the army.

Azam was removed as Pakistan’s all-format captain last year after a disastrous World Cup campaign in India. He had been replaced by Shaheen Shah Afridi in T20 while Shan Masood was entrusted with the leadership of the Test team.

“Following unanimous recommendation from the PCB’s selection committee, Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi has appointed Babar Azam as white-ball (ODI and T20I) captain of the Pakistan men’s cricket team,” PCB said in its post on X.

PCB also posted a video of a meeting between Naqvi and Azam.

The meeting had purportedly taken place a few days ago when Azam returned to Lahore from Saudi Arabia after performing Umra.

The team captain has also been given a seat on the selection committee after a recent reorganisation.
