Pakistan’s Foreign Office has called for collective efforts to tackle terrorism after the suicide bombing in Afghanistan’s Kandahar city that killed at least three people and wounded 12 others.

“Terrorism is a shared concern that both countries need to address through collective efforts,” the FO said in a statement on Monday and strongly condemned the attack.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, and while multiple explosions have been reported around the country since the start of the holy month of Ramazan on March 11, few have been confirmed by Taliban officials.

Afghanistan’s capital is Kabul but Supreme Leader Hibatullah Akhundzada lives in Kandahar city, for decades the stronghold of the Taliban movement.

Neighbouring Pakistan has seen an increase in terrorist attacks in the recent past, blaming Afghanistan for allowing its land to be used as a “launch pad” for terrorist activities.

In reaction to the attack, the statement said that the government and the people extended their sincere condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the early recovery of the injured.

“Pakistan reiterates its strong condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” it said.
