PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari took oath as president of Pakistan for a second term at a ceremony at the Aiwan-i-Sadr in Islamabad, a day after outgoing president Arif Alvi’s term ended.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa administered oath to the newly-elected president of Pakistan. Outgoing president Dr Alvi also attended the ceremony.

A day earlier, Zardari was elected the president of Pakistan for the second time after winning the presidential election with 255 votes against PkMAP chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai who got 119 votes in Parliament.

He succeeded Alvi as the 14th president of Pakistan and became the only civilian president to have been elected to the Office for a second term.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, all three service chiefs, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza participated in the swearing-in ceremony.

Born on July 26, 1955, in Karachi, Zardari is the son of Hakim Ali Zardari, a tribal chief and prominent landowner.

He was married to Pakistan’s first female prime minister Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

Zardari served as the 11th president of Pakistan from 2008 to 2013 and was the first politician to complete a full term in office. He has been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan since August 2018.
