Punjab IGP lauds people who protected woman from mob in Lahore’s Ichhra Bazaar
Punjab Inspector General of Police Usman Anwar has lauded the people who protected a woman from a mob before ASP Sherbano came to the rescue of the girl in Lahore’s Ichra Bazaar last week.
They were named Johnson Tariq, Shahzad Aleem, and Patras. They met with the Punjab IGP in Lahore on Friday.
On February 25, a mob gathered outside a shop in Lahore’s Ichra Bazaar after someone alleged that a woman’s shirt had Quranic verses printed on it, insisting on a “blasphemy” charge.
She was saved by a woman police officer who escorted her to safety after hundreds gathered. She later gave a public apology.
In videos that went viral on social media, the woman looked scared, sitting in the far corner of the restaurant, and shielding her face with her hand as others made accusations against her.
The dress had the word “Halwa” printed in Arabic letters on it, meaning beautiful in Arabic.
Tariq was the one who sheltered the woman in his restaurant. IGP Anwar stated that Tariq’s step to protest the woman from the mob was an act of “great bravery”.

Anwar also appreciated the efforts of Aleem and Patras for showing wisdom during the incident.
