Fact check: Did Punjab suspend arms licences?
The Punjab government has clarified that it has not suspended arms licences while reacting to reports on different sections of the media.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has not given the order for suspending arms licences in the province, the chief minister’s office spokesperson said in a statement on Monday.
Earlier, different sections of the media claimed that the new provincial government under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz made such a decision.
The spokesperson further clarified that no decision has been taken regarding merging all the education boards into the provincial board and Maryam has not given any such order.
Media is required to verify the news before publishing them, it added.
There are as many as 36 district-wise arms licence centres from where intended people have it.
According to the Punjab government portal, there are seven steps for the issuance of the licence
- Fill up arms license form
- Attach one copy of identity card
- Get verification from police station, DSP and SP concerned on filled up arms license form
- Applicant himself should appear before the deputy commissioner along with the copy of identity card
- Deputy commissioner will order for the issuance of arms license on the form
- Pasting of tickets equivalent to Rs2000 for arms license form is required
- Submit the forms in arms licensing issuing branch in the DC Office. The copy of the license will be issued and applicant will purchase arm from arms dealer. Its entry will be made in the post office and renewal thereof will be made annually with fee
