The United States administration has said that it wanted to see a Pakistani government move forward in a way that reflects the will of the country’s people.

“So with respect to the formation of a new government, that’s a Pakistani process led by Pakistanis,” US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in response to a query at a weekly press briefing on Monday.

He was asked about the reaction of the US over the formation of a new government in the South Asian country amid reports of rigging.

“We’re not a party to it and it’s not something that I would comment on. We want to see a government move forward in a way that reflects the will of the Pakistani people,” the US State Department spokesperson said.

When asked if an investigation into reported irregularities should be done first before the forming of a government, he said that the US wanted to see those investigations proceed.

“We want to see them wrapped up as soon as possible.”

Miller was also asked about Pakistan’s decision to move ahead to build a pipeline that will transport natural gas from Iran, a move it says is needed to meet the country’s energy needs.

“I’ll have to take that one back and get you an answer,” the US State Department spokesperson said.
