Rawalpindi police dismiss ASI Taxila for slapping woman
Rawalpindi’s City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani dismissed assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Imtiaz Nasir from duty after he slapped an elderly woman in Taxila.
“CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani dismissed ASI Imtiaz Nasir from the department after the inquiry was completed,” a post from Rawalpindi police’s X account read.
CPO Hamdani said that misbehavior and ill-treatment of women will not be tolerated in any case
“Self-accountability will be ensured at all times. There is no place in Rawalpindi Police for those who violate the authority and hurt the dignity of the department,” he added.
CPO Hamdani had suspended Nasir after video footage showed him slapping an elderly woman and pushing her to the ground in Taxila.
A police spokesperson said that the incident occurred when the police officers were trying to arrest Basir Khan who was wanted in alleged pickpocketing incidents.
The video in question showed ASI Nasir trying to keep the woman away from the driving door of a car.
Later, the woman seemed to be seeking forgiveness as the ASI slapped her and pushed her to the ground.
The video quickly went viral as social media users called for swift action against the police official for breaching his code of conduct.
