PML-N nominee for Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz quits National Assembly seat
PML-N’s nominated candidate for the Punjab chief minister position Maryam Nawaz abandoned on Friday her National Assembly seat which she won in the Feb 8 general elections. She was elected from the NA-119 constituency
She has tendered her resignation to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
According to the rules, an elected candidate cannot keep two assembly seats and Maryam cannot contest for the election of Punjab chief minister.
The Punjab Assembly session has been summoned for today where newly elected candidates would take oath as member provincial assembly.
On Wednesday, Maryam unveiled a development game plan for Punjab. While presiding over a parliamentary meeting of her party, she pledged a new era of development in Punjab and vowed to deliver on every front.
If elected, she would be the first woman chief minister.
She was of the view that five years were not enough to address the massive challenges being faced in the country.
