More results for the National Assembly’s 265 seats that went to polls on Thursday, February 8, poured in by Friday evening, but the pattern set in the early hours of the vote-count persisted. PTI-backed independent candidates still form the largest group of winners.

Preliminary, unofficial results compiled by Aaj News show that at least 100 independent candidates have won their constituencies. PMLN won 71 and PPP 53 seats. MQM-P’s candidates returned in at least 17 national constituencies.

This is the situation after the situation in at least 254 constituencies became clear. We are still for the results from the remaining 11 constituencies.

The ECP issued at least 250 results by Saturday morning. It has not announced two key result from Balochistan – NA259 in Gwadar where Haq Du Tehreek is leading the race and NA-266 where Achakzai has reportedly secured the highest number of votes.

PMLN and PPP have emerged as two major political parties in the election, as PTI technically went out of the game as party after failing to hold the intra-party election in the manner required by the ECP. The two biggest parties have already started negotiations on forming a coalition government.

After the polling ended Thursday evening, initial reports suggested some of the big players had encountered major upsets: Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari lost NA-127 seat to PMLN’s Atta Tarar, JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman lost his home constituency of NA-44 in Dera Ismail Khan to Ali Amin Gandapur, JI’s Sirajul Haq lost to an independent candidate in NA-6 Lower Dir.

PMLN’s KP President Amir Muqam failed to win his NA-2 seat from the Malakand region. The party also lost NA-18 Haripur to Omar Ayub.

PML-N’s Hanif Abbasi faced a tough fight from an independent candidate in Rawalpindi NA-56 and PPP’s Yousaf Raza Gilani faced a similar situation in Multan’s NA-148 constituency. They both were declared winner after the final vote count.
