Clash between political parties in Karachi leaves one dead

The clash reportedly happened over the issue of hoisting flags

Clashes erupted between workers of two political parties in Karachi’s Nazimabad on Sunday, claiming the life of one man while seriously injuring another.

Police stated that workers of a party were hoisting their flags at Multi Chowk when three men from another political party appeared and attempted to confront them.

The clash turned violent and unidentified men opened fire.

The incident led to the death of an Muttahida Qaumi Movement worker, identified as 48-year-old Faraz, A Pakistan Peoples Party worker, identified as Rao Talha, was wounded.

The area suffered hours-long disturbance in law and order situation as the clashes continued. The crowd also set two vehicles ablaze. The authorities had to call a fire brigade to extinguish the fire.

Police have initiated a probe into the matter by collecting statements from eyewitnesses and victims. According to the injured Talha, he and his fellow party workers were hoisting flags at Multi Chowk, when three people from the opposite party came and confronted them.

“Suddenly armed man opened fire, leading us to the incident,’ says Talha.

The deceased’s body was shifted to the hospital, while police contingents cordoned off the area and began an investigation after collecting evidence from the spot.
