The United States administration has condemned the recent strikes by Iran in Pakistan and has expressed hope that the matter will be resolved peacefully instead of an escalation.

Speaking in a scheduled press briefing on Wednesday, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said that the US had not specifically discussed the matter of the Iran strikes with Pakistan.

However, he added that the US condemned these strikes and they amounted to violating the sovereignty of Pakistan.

“So we do condemn those strikes. We’ve seen Iran violate the sovereign borders of three of its neighbours in just the past couple of days,” he said.

He also said it was ‘rich’ of Iran to fund terrorism and instability in the region but then carry out such strikes.

However, when he was asked if he thought things could escalate between Pakistan and Iran, Miller said the US hoped for a peaceful resolution.

“We think – we hope that that’s an issue that can be peacefully resolved,” he said.

Miller also said that the US was working to make sure that there would be no ‘full-blown’ conflict in the region.

“And so far, that effort has been successful, but it is something that we continue to work on all the time because I think, as I said right before we left, the risk very much does remain high that groups could miscalculate, that groups could try to take advantage of instability to further their own goals,” he said.
