What was in PTI’s alleged agreement with PTI-N?

Successful candidates were allowed to join PTI back after election 2024

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s alleged agreement with the PTI-Nazriati has revealed the merger plan between the two parties ahead of the election 2024, slated for February 8.

As per the document, available with Aaj News, PTI and PTI-N were set to contest on the ‘bat’ symbol if it was available by the Election Commission of Pakistan. In case, the PTI could not retain its iconic symbol, the parties were set to contest on PTI-N’s ‘batsman’ symbol.

It is pertinent to mention that PTI-N Chief Akhtar Iqbal Dar denied signing an agreement with the PTI and accused the latter of forging his party tickets.

The PTI had earlier directed its candidates to submit their applications through the PTI-N platform. The party is fighting a legal battle in the Supreme Court to retain its electoral symbol.

PTI founder Imran Khan’s role was also mentioned in the agreement according to which all elected members were bound to report to the former prime minister and would also take directions from him in the parliamentary affairs.

Likewise, successful candidates in the election 2024 were allowed to return to PTI at any time either individually or en masse on the directives of Khan and the PTI-N parliamentary leader would not initiate action against them for leaving the party.

The PTI-N was barred from fielding candidates against the PTI.

According to the agreement, the PTI-N would be made a co-party of the PTI and would provide support to the latter in media among other forums.

The PTI agreed to give women and a minority reserved seats to the PTI-N after securing a majority in the election.

As many as seven candidates including PTI-N Chief Akhtar Iqbal Dar were set to contest elections while the PTI also consented to support Dar for a seat in the Senate.
