Punjab announces 1-week holiday for schools amid pneumonia cases
Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab Mohsin Naqvi has announced the suspension of classes for grade one and below students for one week amid rising pneumonia cases in the province.
Naqvi held an emergency meeting at Lahore’s Children’s Hospital on Wednesday where the schools have also been directed to abolish the morning assembly practice as well till January 31.
Eight out of 10 children are suffering from pneumonia, he said, while urging for children and the elderly to be vaccinated against pneumonia and use warm clothes amid extreme cold.
It is pertinent to mention that educational activities resumed today in schools across the province after the provincial government decided against extending winter vacations.
The vacations commenced on December 18, 2023 and schools were set to reopen on Jan 1. However, the Punjab government extended the vacations till Jan 9 owing to cold weather.
