You were slouching: SC live-streaming exposes CJP Isa to wife’s criticism
Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faes Isa has made an interesting revelation about his personal life, terming it a ‘downside’ of his decision to live-stream proceedings of key court cases from the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The apex court routinely broadcasts public interest cases using YouTube’s livestream, which is then picked by the country’s private-run TV channels. So, almost every week top judges from inside the courtroom are seen on television screens.
CJP Isa addressed an event at the Federal Judicial Academy in Islamabad on Saturday and discussed several positive outcomes of the SC’s move to broadcast the cases live. It allows judges and lawyer to learn from their mistakes while the common man’s trust in the judiciary improves, he said.
However, the top judge also said there was a downside of live-streaming for judges.
“It works as an education tool as well. There are, of course, downside for judges including myself, because When I go home, my wife says you were slouching, you were not sitting properly. So, there are downside as well. But that’s for us to suffer.”
The chief justice said that the judges were not ‘too bothered about these things’ but one has to be more cautious.
The live-stream from the Supreme Court shows judges in their chairs listening to arguments from lawyers, who are also shown live.
