The Israeli government has informed Egypt that it planned to occupy Gaza’s borderline with Egypt, Quds News Network (QNN) has reported while citing sources.

Israel has requested Egyptian soldiers to evacuate the border area, the Palestinian news network said as Israel continued its assault on Gaza in response to the October 7 attack by Hamas.

Israel’s response to the attack has killed at least 20,057 people, most of them women and children, according to the health ministry in Gaza.

A truce last month saw the release of 105 hostages, including 80 Israelis freed in exchange for 240 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.

The Quds News Network added that Tel Aviv also informed Cairo that it “would not be responsible for the safety of any Egyptian soldier” during its attempt to occupy the border. The military operation in the area would proceed regardless of Egypt’s reluctance to follow the demand, it added.

QNN is an independent news outlet popular among Palestinians. The network has been operating in multiple languages for over a decade across various social media platforms.

In October, it claimed that Facebook’s parent company removed its page from the social networking site. It accused Meta of aligning with the Israeli government.

President Joe Biden pressed on Saturday Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to protect civilian lives in Gaza, the White House said, a day after the UN passed the resolution calling for immediate humanitarian assistance to Gaza. Both the US and Russia abstained on the measure.

“The President emphasized the critical need to protect the civilian population including those supporting the humanitarian aid operation, and the importance of allowing civilians to move safely away from areas of ongoing fighting,” the White House said in a statement.
