Police claim arrested Baloch protestors released under their protection

Claim no one was subjected to any kind of violence

The Islamabad police have claimed that arrested Baloch protestors were released under their own protection, following the orders of the federal government.

“The protestors were sent to the place of their choice by the Islamabad Police under their own protection,” the Islamabad police said in a post on X on Friday.

In a press conference on Thursday, a committee formed by the federal government announced that all women and children as well 90% of men arrested from the Baloch Solidarity Committee long march were released.

Caretaker Privatisation Minister Fawad Hasan Fawad had said that the committee would develop a report on the protestors’ grievances which would be submitted to interim Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar.

On Thursday, two human rights organisations called for the release the Baloch protesters who were detained on Wednesday for allegedly pelting stones at policemen during a protest.

“No one was subjected to any kind of violence,” the federal capital police said and claimed that some people were spreading fake news for “negative propaganda and cheap fame”.

They added that establishing law and order was the top priority and requested the people to not to listen to “fake news.”

Earlier, a police report said that around 300 protestors were arrested including five women and no children were arrested. However, a total of 283 (including one woman) was shifted into custody.
