PTI Founder Imran Khan will contest the upcoming general election from at least three constituencies of the National Assembly, party leaders Barrister Ali Zafar and Barrister Gohar announced on Wednesday.

PMLN Leader Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif, meanwhile, are planning to run from two National Assembly constituencies of Karachi, party sources said.

A party representative received nomination papers for the two leaders on Wednesday.

PML Supremo Mian Nawaz Sharif plans to run from the NA-15 constituency of Mansehra district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said his son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar.

A Supreme Court hearing set for January 2 will likely decide his fate. The top court on Wednesday formed a larger bench to hear petitions against disqualifications under Article 62(1)(f) of the constitution.

PTI election strategy

Zafar and Gohar spoke to reporters outside the Adiala prison in Rawalpindi where they attended the jail hearing involving Imran Khan’s cases.

They also announced that the PTI had instructed its election candidates to file their nomination papers without waiting for party tickets.

The decision about the party tickets would be made soon, said Gohar.

He said that PTI wanted the election to go ahead at every cost, though PTI workers were being barred from participating in election-related activities.

Ali Zafar also claimed that PTI candidates were barred from submitting their nomination papers, something that he described as an ‘undemocratic act’.

Nawaz Sharif to contest National Assembly constituency from Mansehra

Zafar said the PTI would give priority to leaders languishing in jails for the party tickets.

Gohar said Imran Khan would contest the election from three constituencies and his nomination papers would be filed from Mianwali, Islamabad and Lahore.

In response to a question about bar councils demanding the resignation of the chief election commissioner of Pakistan before the general election, Gohar said that the party would not demand anything that might delay the upcoming general election.

Maryam and Shehbaz eye Karachi constituencies

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, which has recently mobilised workers in Karachi, is focusing on the metropolitan city this time.

Sources told Shamil Ahmed of Aaj News that Maryam Nawaz Sharif plans to run for the National Assembly constituency of NA-237 from Karachi.

Her uncle, Shehbaz Sharif will be running from another constituency in the city, NA-242.

A party representative Salheen Tanoli received nomination papers for Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday and left for Lahore.

Similarly, nomination papers for Maryam Nawaz Sharif were also received by a party representative.
