Pakistan lost two ICC World Test Championship points from their total after they were penalised for a slow over-rate against Australia in the first Test in Perth, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Monday.

After a massive 360-run defeat along with the deduction of two points, Pakistan slipped to second position on the WTC25 standings.

Australia beat Pakistan by 360 runs in the first Test which was played at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Sunday, as the home side had a commanding Test victory against the South Asian side.

Match Referee Javagal Srinath handed the penalty to the team after they were found two overs short after taking time allowances into consideration.

The penalty means that Pakistan’s percentage points dropped to 61.11 from 66.67 while the visitors have also been fined 10% of their match fee and.

Pakistan Test team captain Shan Masood pleaded guilty to the offence of slow-over rate and accepted the sanctions on the charges leveled by on-field umpires Joel Wilson and Richard Illingworth, third umpire Michael Gough and fourth umpire Donovan Koch.

As per Article 16.11.2 of the ICC WTC playing conditions, a side is penalised one point for each over short. As a result, two WTC points have been deducted from Pakistan’s points total as they were two overs short in the allotted time.

A fine of 10% of their match fee came under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which states that players are fined 5% of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.
