Former President Asif Ali Zardari said on Monday that he would repay the debt that Balochistan had given to Pakistan through its resources once he came pack to province.

Addressing a workers convention in Turbat, Zardari said that he studied his inner human being in the 14 years he spent in jail. He added that he would read two to three books in a single day.

He said that he had used the education he gave himself in prison as well as the sorrow of losting Benazir Bhutto to enter politics and lead PPP.

He told the workers that he was addressing them on the anniversary of his wedding.

Zardari told the workers that he understood the problems of Balochistan. He said that he had been asked to support conflicts in the middle east but had refused to do so as there was a need to focus on the country’s own problems first.

He said that no nation could afford to accomodate another nation. He said that Pakistan had hosted Afghans with hospitality for 40 years but they were still not becoming ‘brothers’.

The former president added that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had been allowed to get off if he wrote an apology but the leader had chosen to die at the hands of people rather than history.

He said that Benazir had been warned by the world’s intelligence agencies about the danger of returning to Pakistan but she had wanted to honour her promise to the people of Pakistan.

Zardari said that she had survived the first attack but had been martyred in the second.

He added that he had given away the powers that the constitution gave him as he had an eye on history.

Zardari said that Balochistan was the heart of Pakistan and the country was running on its resources. He said that he had given money to the province but had failed to follow up. He said that he would make up for the mistake this time.

However, whatever would happen had to be done through brotherhood and peace, Zardari said.

He added that the province needed money which he would bring from Tajkistan. He said that if the province became fertile, the country would be able to expand its exports.

The former president said that bringing development to Balochistan would not be a favour but simply a paying of the debt of the province’s sweat.

He said that Islamabad did not understand the issues facing smaller provinces. He added that PPP did not come to power for itself but to serve the people.
